Moving Box information

You may use Moving Cartons or Plastic Storage Tubs to pack and your belongings for transport as long as they are packed well and safely sealed. During transportation your boxes will be stacked so they should also be sturdy. There are many places to obtain packing supplies but if you need help deciding which boxes are right for your move and where to purchase them contact your Cardinal Moving Systems moving consultant for advice.

Moving Cartons and Plastic Storage Tubs are available in a variety of different sizes and for a variety of purposes. Here is information on the most common moving boxes, their sizes and typical use.

Book Box
Average Dimensions: 12” x 12” x 12”
Size: 1 Cubic Foot
Typical Use: Convenient for small, heavy items. Books, CD’s, VHS Tapes, etc.

Small Moving Carton
Average Dimensions: 12” x 12” x 16”
Size: 1.5-2Cubic Feet
Typical Use: Books, CD’s, DVD’s, record albums, paper files, etc.

Medium Moving Carton
Average Dimensions: 18” x 18” x 18”
Size: 3.0 Cubic Feet
Typical Use: Very functional carton. Good for a large number of items that are of medium weight and size. Small Appliances, board games, toys, photo albums, canned goods, etc.

Large Moving Carton
Average Dimensions: 18” x 18” x 24”
Size: 4.5 Cubic Feet
Typical Use: Great for large, bulky lighter items. Clothing, electronics, pots and pans, lamp shades, stuffed animals, etc.

Extra Large Moving Carton
Average Dimensions: 24” x 24” x 18”
Size: 6.0 Cubic Feet
Typical Use: Lightweight, bulky items. Use for linens, towels, comforters and pillows.

Shorty Wardrobe Box
Average Dimensions: 24" x 20" x 34"
Size: 10.1 Cubic Feet
Typical Use: Clothing can stay on the hanger in the box. Useful for shirts, blouses, sport coats and jackets.

Grande Wardrobe Box
Average Dimensions: 24" x 21" x 48"
Size: 14.0 Cubic Feet
Typical Use: Great for packing up a wardrobe, closet or dresser.

Dish Pack
Average Dimensions: 18" x 18" x 28"
Size: 5.2 Cubic Feet
Typical Use: Reinforced cardboard offers extended protections for stemware, dishes, china and antiques.

Picture or Mirror Carton
Average Dimensions: Varies. Two pieces will cover down to 22” x 31” x 3.5”. If 4 pieces are used they can over an object measuring up to 40" x 60" x 3.5".
Size: Varies but usually 2-5 Cubic Feet
Typical Use: Usually comes in sections which are combined to protect the mirror or picture.
